Etym. from δύναμαι

I. "power, might, strength", Hom.: then, generally, "strength, power, ability" to do a thing, id=Hom.; παρὰ δύναμιν beyond one's "strength", Thuc.; ὑπὲρ δ. Dem.; κατὰ δ. "as far as lies in one", Lat. pro virili, Hdt.
