(< πλήσσω), [in LXX chiefly for מַכָּה, also for מַגֶּפָה etc.;]

1. a blow, stripe, wound: pl., Lk 10:3012:48, Ac 16:23, 33, II Co 6:511:23; ἡ π. τ. θανάτου (RV, death-stroke), Re 13:3, 12; τ. μαχαίρας, Re 13:14.

2. Metaph., a calamity, plague: Re 9:18, 2011:615:1, 6, 816:9, 2118:4, 821:922:18.†
