[in LXX for אַרְגָּמָן, אַרְגְּוָן;]

1. the purple-fish (cf. I Mac 4:23).

2. purple dye.

3. Later, = πορφυρίς, a purple garment: Mk 15:17, 20, Lk 16:19, Re 18:12.†
