1. to receive as a guest, entertain: c. acc. pers., Ac 10:2328:7, He 13:2; pass., Ac 10:6, 18, 3221:16.

2. In late writers (Polyb., al.; II Mac 9:6), to surprise, astonish by strangeness: Ac 17:20; pass., I Pe 4:4, 12.†
