(< μήτρρ + ἀλοιάω, to smite);

(a) a matricide: I Ti 1:9 (AV, R, txt., but v. infr.);

(b) a smiter of his mother: I Ti 1:9 (R, mg., cf. Ex 21:15, and v. Ellic., CGT, in l.).†
