1Ch 8:33, the fourth son of Saul, generally called Ishbosheth. The wordBAAL, the name of an idol, was not pronounced by scrupulous Jews; they substitutedBOSHETH, confusion. For Meribbaal, they said Mephibosheth, etc. SeeISHBOSHETH.
