The fourth son of Aaron, consecrated to the priesthood, Ex 6:23Nu 3:2,3. His posterity took charge of the tabernacle in the wilderness, Ex 38:21Nu 4:28. Some of this line, namely, Eli, Ahitub, Ahiah, Ahimelech, and Abiathar, held the office of high priest, but under Solomon it reverted to the family of Eleazar, 1Ki 2:7. SeeABIATHAR.
