ἀκοή

I. "a hearing, the sound heard", Il.

2. "the thing heard, hearsay, report, news, tidings", μετὰ πατρὸς ἀκουήν in quest of "tidings" of his father, Od.; ἀκοῆι ἱστορεῖν, παραλαβεῖν τι to know "by hearsay", Hdt.; so, ἐξ ἀκοῆς λέγειν Plat.
