Etym. βλάσφημος

1. "to drop evil or profane words, speak lightly or amiss of sacred things", βλ. εἰς θεούς Plat.: "to utter ominous words", Aeschin.

2. "to speak ill or to the prejudice of" one, "to speak slander", περί τινος Dem.; εἴς τινα id=Dem.:—also, βλ. τινα Babr., NTest.:—Pass. "to have evil spoken of one", id=NTest.
