Etym. ἐκδιδοῖ as if from -διδόω

Infl. fut. -δώσω

I. "to give up, surrender", esp. something seized unlawfully, Lat. reddere, Il., Hdt.:— ἐκδ. δοῦλον "to give up" a slave to be examined by torture, Dem.

2. ἐκδ. θυγατέρα "to give" one's daughter "in marriage", Lat. nuptum dare, Hdt., attic; so in Mid., ἐκδίδοσθαι θυγατέρα Hdt., Eur.

3. "to give out for money, let out for hire", Hdt.:—c. inf., like Lat. locare aliquid faciendum, Dem.

4. "to lend out money" on security, such as the cargo of a ship, ap. Dem.

II. intr. (sub. ἑαυτόν or -ούς) of rivers, "to empty themselves", Hdt.
