1. "to tell, proclaim, announce", Od., Hdt., etc.:— Mid. "to let proclamation be made", id=Hdt.

2. "to give orders, command", id=Hdt., Thuc.; c. acc., στρατιὰν ἐπ., like Lat. milites imperare, to order an army to be furnished, Thuc.:—also in Mid., Hdt.

3. as Attic law-term, "to denounce" one who, having incurred ἀτιμία, yet takes part in public affairs, Aeschin., etc.

4. "to promise", τί τινι Aesch.:—so in Mid., Hdt., attic:—absol. "to make offers", Hdt.

5. "to profess, make profession of", τι Dem.:—so in Mid., like Lat. profiteri, Xen., Plat.
