I. adv.,

1. of Place, "betwixt, between", Il., etc.; with the Art., τὸ μεταξύ Hdt.; ἐν τῷ μ. Thuc.

2. of Time, "between-whiles, meanwhile", Hdt., etc; with pres. part., μεταξὺ ὀρύσσων "in the midst of" his digging, Lat. inter fodiendum, id=Hdt.; μ. θύων Ar.; λέγοντα μ. "in the middle of" his discourse, Plat.

b. "after, afterwards", NTest.

3. of Qualities, τὰ μ. "intermediate", i. e. neither good nor bad, Plat.
