Etym. = μόγος
"toil, hard work hardship, distress, trouble", Hes., Trag.: pl. "toils, troubles, hardships", Trag.; τέκνων "for" children, Eur. -μόχθος and πόνος are both used in the sense of "hardship, distress;" yet this notion belongs properly to μόχθος, while πόνος is properly "work", Lat. labor (from πένομαι, πένης, the "poor man's lot)."
