Etym. ποιμήν
I. "to be shepherd", ἐπ᾽ ὄεσσι over the sheep, Il.: c. acc. "to tend" a flock, Od., Eur., etc.; absol., Theocr.:—Pass., like νέμομαι, "to roam the pastures", of flocks, Il., Eur.
2. in Aesch., πᾶς πεποίμανται τόπος every place "has been traversed" (as by a shepherd seeking after stray sheep).
II. metaph. "to tend, cherish, mind", Pind., Aesch.
