CULMIFEROUS, adjective [Latin, a stalk; to bear.] Producing stalks. culmiferous plants have a smooth jointed stalk, usually hollow, and wrapped about at each joint with single, narrow, sharp-pointed leaves, and their seeds contained in chaffy husks, as wheat, rye, oats and barley.
