UNTRACT'ABLE, adjective [Latin intractabilis.]

1. Not tractable; not yielding to discipline; stubborn; indocile; ungovernable; as an untractable son.

2. Rough; difficult.

3. Not yielding to the heat or to the hammer; as an ore.

[Intractable is more generally used.]
