Al″ter‐cate (�), v. i. [imp. & p. p.Altercated; p. pr. & vb. n.Altercating.] [L. altercatus, p. p. of altercare, altercari, fr. alter another. See Alter.] To contend in words; to dispute with zeal, heat, or anger; to wrangle.
