A‐sleep″, a. & adv. [Pref. a- + sleep.] 1. In a state of sleep; in sleep; dormant.

Fast asleep the giant lay supine.

2. In the sleep of the grave; dead.

3. Numbed, and, usually, tingling. Udall.
