As″ter‐oid (�), n. [Gr. � starlike, starry; αστἤρ star + � form: cf. F. astéroïde. See Aster.] A starlike body; esp. one of the numerous small planets whose orbits lie between those of Mars and Jupiter; — called also planetoids and minor planets.
