‖Che‐lo″ne (?), n. [Gr. χελώνη a tortoise. So named from shape of the upper lip of the corolla.] (Bot.) A genus of hardy perennial flowering plants, of the order Scrophulariaceæ, natives of North America; — called also snakehead, turtlehead, shellflower, etc.
