El″e‐gy (?), n.; pl.Elegies (#). [L. elegia, Gr. �, fem. sing. (cf. �, prop., neut. pl. of � a distich in elegiac verse), fr. � elegiac, fr. � a song of mourning.] A mournful or plaintive poem; a funereal song; a poem of lamentation. Shak.
