Ep′i‐glot″tis (?), n. [NL., fr. Gr. �; επἴ upon + �, �, tongue. See Glottis.] (Anat.) A cartilaginous lidlike appendage which closes the glottis while food or drink is passing while food or drink is passing through the pharynx.
