E‐pig″y‐nous (?), a. [Pref. epi- + Gr. � woman, female: cf. F. épigyne.] (Bot.) Adnate to the surface of the ovary, so as to be apparently inserted upon the top of it; — said of stamens, petals, sepals, and also of the disk.
