‖Gyr′a‐can″thus (jĭr′ȧ‐kăn″thŭs), n. [NL., fr. Gr. γυρόσ round + ἄκανθα spine.] (Paleon.) A genus of fossil fishes, found in Devonian and carboniferous strata; — so named from their round, sculptured spines.
