Hæmatoxylin

Hæm′a‐tox″y‐lin (–tŏks″ĭ‐lĭn), n. [See Hæmatoxylon.] (Chem.) The coloring principle of logwood. It is obtained as a yellow crystalline substance, C16H14O6, with a sweetish taste. Formerly called also hematin.
