Hypocarp

{ Hy″po‐carp (?), ‖Hy′po‐car″pi‐um (?), } n. [NL. hypocarpium, fr. Gr. υπὅ beneath + � fruit.] (Bot.) A fleshy enlargement of the receptacle, or for the stem, below the proper fruit, as in the cashew. See Illust. of Cashew.
