Oph‐thal″mi‐a (ŏf‐thăl″mĭ‐ȧ), n. [F. ophthalmie, L. ophthalmia, fr. Gr. οφθαλμἴα, fr. οφθαλμὄσ the eye, akin to E. optic. See Optic.] (Med.) An inflammation of the membranes or coats of the eye or of the eyeball.
