Re‐fec″to‐ry (–tō̍‐ry̆), n.; pl.; Refectories (–r�z). [LL. refectorium: cf. F. réfectoire. See Refection.] A room for refreshment; originally, a dining hall in monasteries or convents.

☞ Sometimes pronounced rĕf″ĕk‐tō̍‐ry̆, especially when signifying the eating room in monasteries.
