‖Scle‐ro″ti‐um (?), n.; pl.Sclerotia (#). [NL., fr. Gr. σκληρόσ hard.] 1. (Bot.) A hardened body formed by certain fungi, as by the Claviceps purpurea, which produces ergot.

2. (Zoöl.) The mature or resting stage of a plasmodium.
