Smec″tite (?), n. [G. smectit, fr. Gr. ����� a kind of fuller's earth, fr. ����� to wipe off.] (Min.) A hydrous silicate of alumina, of a greenish color, which, in certain states of humidity, appears transparent and almost gelatinous.
