Squamipen

Squam″i‐pen (skwăm″ĭ‐pĕn or skwā″mĭ–), n.; pl.Squamipennes (–pĕn″nēz). [L. squama a scale + penna a fin: cf. F. squamipenne.] (Zoöl.) Any one of a group of fishes having the dorsal and anal fins partially covered with scales.

☞ They are compressed and mostly bright-colored tropical fishes, belonging to Chætodon and allied genera. Many of them are called coral fishes, and angel fishes.
