Tym″pa‐ny (?), n. [Gr. �, fr. � a kettledrum. See Tympanites.] 1. (Med.) A flatulent distention of the belly; tympanites. Fuller.

2. Hence, inflation; conceit; bombast; turgidness. “Thine 's a tympany of sense.” Dryden.
