Wen″tle‐trap′ (?), n. [D. wenteltrap a winding staircase; cf. G. wendeltreppe.] Any one of numerous species of elegant, usually white, marine shells of the genus Scalaria, especially Scalaria pretiosa, which was formerly highly valued; — called also staircase shell. See Scalaria.
