ἀποτίνω

I. "to pay back, repay, return", τί τινι Il.

2. "to pay for" a thing, τι Hom., Aesch., etc.: absol. "to make atonement", Il.

3. "to pay in full", Hdt., attic

II. Mid. ἀποτίνομαι and ἀποτίνυμαι: fut. -τίσομαι:— "to get paid one, to exact or require" a penalty "from" a man, ποινήν Il.; δίκην Eur.

2. c. acc. pers., ἀποτίσασθαί τινα "to avenge oneself on" another, "punish" him, Od., Xen.

3. c. acc. rei, "to take vengeance for" a thing, "punish" it, Od.; so, c. gen. rei, Hdt.:—absol. "to take vengeance", Theogn.
