I. "finding pity, pitied or moving pity, pitiable, piteous", Hom., etc.; ἐλεινὸς εἰσορᾶν "piteous" to behold, Aesch.; ἐλεινὸν ὁρᾷς thou lookest "piteous", Soph.; ἐσθῆτ᾽ ἐλεινήν Ar.; ποιῶν ἑαυτὸν ὡς ἐλεεινότατον Dem.

2. "shewing pity, pitying", ἐλ. δάκρυον a tear "of pity", Od.; οὐδὲν ἐλεεινόν no "feeling of pity", Plat.
