Etym. longer form of μάκαρ

1. of men, "blessed, happy", Pind., Eur., etc.:—in addresses, ὦ μακάριε, like ὦ θαυμάσιε, "my good sir, my dear sir", Plat.:—c. gen., ὦ μ. τῆς τύχης "happy you" for your good fortune! Ar.

2. οἱ μακάριοι, like οἱ ὄλβιοι, "the rich and better educated", Plat., Arist.
