1. "to form the middle, be in or at the middle", Aesch., Eur.:—of time, ἡμέρα μεσοῦσα "mid-" day, Hdt.; θέρους μεσοῦντος in "mid" summer, Thuc.

2. c. gen. "to be in the middle of", τῆς ἀναβάσιος Hdt.; so, c. acc., μεσῶν τὴν ἀρχήν "in the middle of" his time of office, Aeschin.
