"at day-break, in the morning, early", mostly with Verbs of motion, so as to agree with the person, ἀφίκετο ὄρθριος Hhymn.; ὄρθριος ἥκειν Plat.; also, ὄρθριον ᾁδειν (sc. ᾆσμα), of the cock, Ar.:— τὸ ὄρθριον as adv., "in the morning, early", Hdt.
