I. "to be silent" or "still, keep silence", Hdt., attic; φησὶν σιωπῶν, i. e. his silence gives consent, Eur.
II. trans. "to hold silent, keep secret, not to speak of", Xen., etc.:—Pass. "to be kept silent" or "secret", σιγῶσ᾽ ὧν σιωπᾶσθαι χρεών "keeping secret" things which ought "to be kept secret", Eur.
