1. "to retire, withdraw, depart", νεῶν "from" the ships, Il.; ὑπ. τινὶ ἕδρης "to retire from" one's seat "for" another (cf. ὑπανίσταμαι), Od.; ὑπ. τινὶ λόγων, i. e. to allow him to speak first, Xen.
