DISQUISITION, noun [Latin, to seek.] A formal or systematic inquiry into any subject, by arguments, or discussion of the facts and circumstances that may elucidate truth; as a disquistion on government or morals; a disquistion concerning the antediluvian earth. [It is usually applied to a written treatise.]
