TAV'ERN-KEEPER, noun One who keeps a tavern. In the United States, one who is licensed to sell liquors to be drank in his house, and to entertain travelers and lodgers, together with the horses or oxen composing their teams. Taverners are by law to be provided with suitable beds for their guests, and with fodder for horses and cattle.
