‖As′te‐rol″e‐pis (�), n. [NL., fr. Gr. αστἤρ star + � scale.] (Paleon.) A genus of fishes, some of which were eighteen or twenty feet long, found in a fossil state in the Old Red Sandstone. Hugh Miller.
