Gym‐na″si‐arch (jĭm‐nā″zĭ‐ärk), n. [L. gymnasiarchus, Gr. γυμνασίαρχοσ; γυμνάσιον + ἄρχειν to govern: cf. F. gymnasiarque.] (Gr. Antiq.) An Athenian officer who superintended the gymnasia, and provided the oil and other necessaries at his own expense.
