O″phite, n. [L. ophites, Gr. οφἴτησ (sc. �), a kind of marble spotted like a serpent: cf. F. ophite.] (Min.) A greenish spotted porphyry, being a diabase whose pyroxene has been altered to uralite; — first found in the Pyreness.
