Pan″ic, a. [Gr. πανικόσ of or pertaining to Πάν Pan, to whom the causing of sudden fright was ascribed: cf. F. panique.] Extreme or sudden and causeless; unreasonable; — said of fear or fright; as, panic fear, terror, alarm. “A panic fright.” Dryden.
