Strophiole

Stro″phi‐ole (?), n. [L. strophiolum a little chaplet, dim. of strophium a band, Gr. �, dim. of � a twisted band: cf. F. strophiole.] (Bot.) A crestlike excrescence about the hilum of certain seeds; a caruncle.
