1. the "gold stater" best known at Athens was the Persian, called στατὴρ Δαρεικός or simply Δαρεικός, "Daric", from Darius Hystaspes, worth about 1 "l." 2"s.", Hdt., Thuc.

2. later a "silver stater" was in use, = τετράδραχμον, NTest., Xen.
