I. "gall, bile", Aesch., Eur., Thuc., etc.

2. pl. χολαί, "the gall-bladder", Soph.; called δοχαὶ χολῆς in Eur.;—so in sg., Aesch.

II. metaph., like χόλος, Lat. bilis, bile, gall, i. e. "bitter anger, wrath", id=Aesch., Ar., etc.; πάνυ ἐστί μοι χολή stirs my "bile", makes me sick, Ar.; χολὴν κινεῖν τινι id=Ar.
