HERPETOLOGY

HERPETOL'OGY, noun [Gr. a reptile, and discourse.] A description of reptiles; the natural history of reptiles, including oviparous quadrupeds, as the crocodile, frog and tortoise, and serpents. The history of the latter is called ophiology.
